Representative Truitt Nominates Nine NASA Scholarship Recipients

Southlake - State Representative Vicki Truitt is pleased to announce nine students in District 98 have been accepted into the Texas High School Aerospace Scholars program for the 2003-2004 school year. Among the selected students for the prestigious program are Carroll Senior High students Matt Kuester, Matt Gray; Keller High students Kris Loewecke, Ryan Harrison, Jessie Goodman; and Fossil Ridge High students Chi Mai, Kelli Boehringer, April Roberson, and Curt Rodda.

“I am really excited about all these students' nominations to the Texas Aerospace Scholars program. They will have an experience that is truly unique. NASA is providing a wonderful opportunity for these students to get hands-on training that cannot be duplicated in a classroom setting,” Representative Truitt said.

The Texas Aerospace Scholars Program encourages students to pursue studies in math, science, engineering, or computer science. The State of Texas in partnership with NASA and the Texas educational community developed the program to offer Texas high school students the opportunity to participate in an educational program beginning this month that features a one-week summer residential experience at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. Students will take part in a variety of activities including: interactive we-based work; distance learning; on-line mentoring; briefings and tours; field trips and a summer group project.

More than 250 students will participate in this year's Texas Aerospace Scholars Program. This marks the fifth year of the program. Representative Truitt continued, “I only wish more students had applied for the program this year, as many students possible need to have this opportunity.” Last year, Rep. Truitt nominated students Matthew Byas, Samantha Kayem, and Megan Mueller; all were accepted and completed the program.
