Local High School applicants are awarded NASA Aerospace Scholars' Award

SOUTHLAKE, TX -- Three local high school juniors will be spending their summer learning about Aeronautics engineering through a unique program offered by the State of Texas called High School Aerospace Scholars.  The educational program was announced in September 2005 in local newspapers and only three applicants within District 98  were selected from many that applied.  Representative Truitt would like to congratulate Chet Lockwood of Keller High School, Nicole Arockiam of Carroll Senior High School and David Wakeley of Central High School for being selected.

These selected juniors will take part in a variety of activities including: interactive web-based work, distance learning, online mentoring, briefings and tours at Johnson Space Center, and a summer group project.  This opportunity helps to encourage more students to purse studies and careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics areas.  More than 1,500 students from across Texas have participated in the program since it's inception.

"Once again, I am proud that this wonderful opportunity was presented to these high school students in my district.  NASA and the Johnson Space Center offer these young people the opportunity of a lifetime.  I am always impressed with our young people's talent and drive for knowledge."
