TPCA Presents State Representative Vicki Truitt with Legislative Award
SOUTHLAKE - The Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) today presented State Representative Vicki Truitt (R-Keller) with its Legislative Award. Awarded bi-annually in recognition of a lawmaker’s assistance with critically important legislation to the business of law enforcement, Keller Police Chief Mark Hafner handed the honor over to State Representative Vicki Truitt who represents District 98 in the Texas House of Representatives. Representative Truitt, a fifth term legislator is Chairman of the Texas House of Committee on Pensions and Investments Committee, and has served in the Texas Legislature since 1999.
Chief James McLaughlin stated, “Chairman Truitt has helped TPCA and our chiefs of police all across Texas. Her service to our profession has not gone unnoticed over the years, and we owe her, at the very least, a little recognition for a job well done. ”
“I feel like I’m the one who should be presenting an award to the Texas police chiefs,” Truitt stated, “These chiefs have backed me up 100% during several sessions of the legislature when we were leading the charge to crack down on the criminals who burglarize vehicles. For everything they do, we owe them a huge debt of gratitude,” she added. “I am humbled and deeply honored by this recognition,” Truitt said.
The Texas Police Chiefs Association was founded in 1958 to promote, encourage and advance the professional development of Chiefs of Police and senior police management personnel throughout the State of Texas. TPCA is the only official state law enforcement administrator's organization in Texas and, as such, it is concerned on a statewide basis with all issues involving the criminal justice system.
We believe that local chiefs of police possess a thorough knowledge of the law enforcement needs within the state. Through an organization such as TPCA, issues affecting the criminal justice system can be addressed both with local elected officials and the state legislature. For over fifty years, TPCA has actively sought to promote the professional practice of law enforcement administration, to represent the membership and the profession on issues of concern, and to encourage high ethical standards of conduct among law enforcement administrators through its code of ethics. Our membership now includes the law enforcement management personnel of over 300 cities and agencies representing a population served of more than 15 million.
